I’m Justin, one of the new Instructional Designers working in the Center for Online Learning at Hunter College. Prior to working at Hunter College, I worked at Queens College from 2010 until 2023, overseeing instructional technology for the School of Music. Between 2020 and 2023, I also designed audio/visual technology systems for two dozen houses of worship throughout Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island, with most systems focused on video streaming so parishioners could join services remotely.
During the 2010s, I worked as a freelance audio engineer, recording and mixing music, podcasts, and audio for video. In addition, I mixed sound for concerts and corporate events around NYC and Long Island, with a focus on mixing sound for classical music and orchestra concerts. I was the co-owner of a recording studio, Threadbare Music, in Long Island City, NY from 2017-2020. I also taught a course in audio recording for the Music Production program at Queens College from 2014-2019.
At Queens College, I helped faculty in the School of Music use technology to assist with and complement their teaching. I also oversaw our technology facilities, including a recording studio, a distance learning studio, and a computer lab. I helped develop, deploy and support a variety of technology tools during my time there, including a cloud-based music rehearsal, recording, and assessment platform for instrumental methods courses, specialized video conferencing equipment allowing for music lessons and master classes to take place remotely with optimal audio quality, and video assessment using Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams for courses in basic piano and keyboard skills.
